As late as the early 1990s, when I found myself there with some regularity, they were still talkin' about the "hangin' tree" there in, or close to, that square. And it wadn't no chamber of commerce kitsch, either. :-) If you came north of there to cross the Red, then you crossed the Taovayas Bridge, I think. That's where two ancient Wichita Indian villages were -- seems like there qas one on each side of the river way, way back there. And, either on the road north of Saint Jo, or the one north of Nocona, are some of the littlest pump jacks I've ever seen. I mean, like three feet tall, and they've been pumping since the '20s. :-)Erudite Redneckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04830721195868387265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7929374.post-1120461636979010912005-07-04T02:20:00.000-05:002005-07-04T02:20:00.000-05:00After viewing the pictures, I'm ashamed, I tell yo...After viewing the pictures, I'm ashamed, I tell you, simply ahsamed, that I would suggest a sit-in. What a neat story and pics.

As a former 11-year resident of Texas, the Lone Star State has a special place in my heart -- just to the south of Oklahoma.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7929374.post-1120400998925947122005-07-03T09:29:00.000-05:002005-07-03T09:29:00.000-05:00That is so cool, Trixie, I love those old towns. It somehow seems that time has stood still for them, and that, in this case, is a good thing.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15633208787250567256noreply@blogger.com
