Ouch! I've been tagged by Tech for another meme! Oh, actually I guess it doesn't hurt, really. Especially since this meme is a search for joy!
Here's the meme:
THE SEARCH FOR JOY
Search your blog for the word "joy" used in the context of "happiness." If you cannot find the word in your weblog, you may use any of the select list of synonyms below.
joy amusement, bliss, cheer, comfort, delectation, delight, ecstasy, elation, exaltation, exultation, exulting, felicity, gaiety, gladness, glee, good humor, gratification, happiness, hilarity, humor, jubilance, liveliness, merriment, mirth, pleasure, rapture, regalement, rejoicing, revelry, satisfaction, wonder
If your weblog does not include a built-in search engine, then you can use Google to search it only for the word you wish to find.
If you've found the word and it was not used facetiously or sarcastically, good for you. All you need to do is link to your earlier entry, and write a few words about that joyous moment. If, however, you have no joy (whole words only) in your weblog, you must dig deep in your soul and find something wonderful in your life right now. One little thing that fills you with warmth, that bubbles you over with quiet happiness, or tickles you with its good-hearted hilarity, or makes you glad you just took a breath, and are getting ready to take another. It doesn't have to be anything big. A smile someone gave you; your cat on your shoulder; the way the light angles through your window and casts rainbows on your floor. All it has to be is something genuine, something real, something that matters to you.
Because we all need joy in our lives, and need to take the time -- from time to time -- to recognize it. And sometimes, we need to pass it on.
Even if we're a big pain in the ass when we do.
When you've dealt with your own joy, pass the quest on to five other bloggers.
I have two posts that use the word "joy" but they come in response to Hurricane Katrina. Here are the links to those two posts:
Let us remember
Let us sing (all the verses)
And for comfort:
Today's Headlines!
I know I've had posts with a similar quality, but which apparently don't include these particular words. And aha! I have just discovered that the search feature does not always work! I did a search for the words "supper" "pumpkin" and "symbolism" on my blog, all of which I know are there, and nothing shows up!
And now, these five people are TAGGED:
Dr. E.R.
RebelAngel
Nikki
Miranda
Soupy

And now you have a comment! :) It's rare that I get to make the first one. Usually Frenzied beats me to it.
I've also noticed that the search misses words. I've not been able to find out how it works ... or in this case doesn't.
Question: Who is Fred Phelps? I honestly don't know. I suspect once again that everyone else does, but I just don't watch the news.
Fred Phelps is the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, who had been leading protests at the funerals of fallen soldiers. The church claims God hates America because "it supports homosexuals." They claim it is too late to repent or pray, that God hates Oklahoma and the U.S. and our soldiers. They protested at an Oklahoma soldier's funeral this past week and then again Sunday at the Del City Southern Baptist Church. It's very sad. E.R. has a whole long boisterous blog about it today.
Oh, and Tech ... thanks for posting! I needed that.
Lurking. Not feeling very joyful. SoRRY! Sheesh. :-)
--ER
Watch out, E.R., I've got a broom handy and I'm just itching to whack someone with it. (My other car is in the driveway.)
Oh. I've since read that story on that. In my great-grandfather's day, they would have horsewhipped those people. Ah the good old days ..
Yep, and then we would have set up great long planks of wood on saw horses, covered them with embroidered table cloths and spread out a feast of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, green beans, homemade dinner rolls, chocolate cake, lemon pie, great pitchers of iced tea and lemonade. And after feasting, there would have been a game of horse shoes in the shade of the giant walnut tree.
My gosh, I'm drooling, Trixie. When I was growing up, we had many Sunday afternoon church dinners. I miss those days sometimes with an ache in my soul. Maybe I'm just missing being a kid.
The little church I attend still has those church dinners. We have a shaded parking lot with a small field beyond. We sat up tables under the trees while the kids play in the field. It's a glorious time.
When I hear about church dinners like what Gloria and Tech talk about, it makes me wonder what I missed growing up in a city and unchurched as I did. Maybe I'd feel differently about religion. You are lucky to have them.
Yeah horsewhipping would be a good start for Phelps and let's not forget the salt and lemon juice! Just kidding. Maybe not.
I'm not sure if I'm welcome here but here I am. And even I think Phelps is wrong! :)
I know I need to search for joy more in my life. I get down when I think about the world much.
Of course you are welcome here, Patriot. This is a place of respite for everyone. We don't normally discuss the hot topics here -- I'd rather talk about the stuff that really matters every day than the controversial stuff on the margins. Yeah, Phelps and crew has me riled up for being so inconsiderate and bullheaded. And I could indeed get heated about it.
Tech's recipe for Many Can Soup has calmed me down considerably, though. So has the challenge to search for joy.
Patriot, you're still welcome at Harbor Street, too. Just because we disagree doesn't mean we can't disagree like the Christian, gentlemen we are. :)
Glad you liked the soup, Trixie. I had some for lunch. Delicious, hearty and healthy. Good food.
Dr. ER, by the way, is in Iowa at a conference involving loooongggg days. Probably not checking in blogwise. :-)
--ER
Rebel Angel, what a cool story! I'm so glad you appreciate Dora. A lot of people would want her to be quieter and miss the joy.
My church has several older people who still enjoy life with gusto. I hope I have half their energy when I reach their age. Unfortunately I don't have that much longer to go! :(
I have an aunt who's in her upper 80s. She still walks a mile every day around the assisted living facility. She's blurry about names sometimes, but she's with it all the rest of the time.
Hey, Trixie, with this comment, you tied ER's comments today. And really I commented several times on his so you're actually ahead. :)
I had to comment again so that you stay tied with ER 'cause he just commented on his blog and pushed up the total to 21. It'd be nice if FF would jump in here and do some of the comment work! :)
Whoo hoo! Thanks for trying to keep us even, Tech! I would have skewed things for sure commenting on his blog about how you were rolling his counter too many times! Just once I would like to beat the socks off of him as far as number of posts. Just once!!
I love old ladies! They are so cool. I have a few favorites at my church. Not long ago, my friend Jeanne, who is also known as the "hat lady" at our church, told me she dreamed about dancing with me. I thought that was really sweet -- she said we really stopped people in their tracks. Some day I want to be the hat lady too. And sing hymns loud enough to make the youth stop and stare.
Well, right now you are ahead of his comments.
Isn't this silly? I know it is, really, but I seem to have a compulsion about this today! Oooh, and I like the word verification word I have -- oopprkx. I wonder how that should be pronounced.
He's ahead and this will bring you neck and neck with him again!
And this will put you ahead by a nose!
And now another one just to boot!
I must do my part and contribute another comment. It might be silly, Trixie, but this "race" is fun! :)
Thank you my silly friends! I was out at rehearsals and was so afraid he would be leading by a landslide when I got back. I wonder how Florida will wind up voting...
So far you're still ahead!
LOLOLOLOL. What a hoot! ... Dang it! I just made it worse!!
Trixie 32, ER 29! :-)
--ER
I wondered when you were going to drop by and finally realize there was a competition going on. LOL! I wasn't going to post about it on YOUR site because that would move you ahead! Bad strategy, that.
But you know, Trixie, you need to post again. We're commenting on Monday's post!
Ohhh, you are right, Tech. I will post more tomorrow. I have to think of another topic that will attact as much attention as this.
Now, Trixie, remember that comments are a nice plus, but they're not the reason you're blogging. You're blogging to share your humor, wisdom and life with us. Don't be a comment tart like some people I could name but won't ... :)
Tech, thank you for reminding me of my higher purpose. No, I certainly don't want to be a tart and I don't want to tarnish the good name of my place by tarting it up "like some people we know but won't name..."
I did find out, interestingly, that some men who went to high school together got back in touch with each other because of my blog. Perhaps that will be today's topic!
Of course, the fact we're pushing your comments even higher as we talk about this is ironic, don't you think? :)
Y'know, I was thinking about that as I had breakfast. But I figured, hey, that's OK. I don't mind running up the score. In fact, I kind of enjoy it. This is much better than some ugly political or religious debate.
Hey, any new word about poor Mikey?
LOL! Why don't we take this all the way to 50 comments?
Oh Gloria! That is a glorious idea! Did you see those beautiful mums Tech posted on his blog? They made me really JOYFUL! (Just to get back on topic.)
They are beautiful! I love flowers and love all the flower photos Tech posts. He has an eye for beauty. That saying about "stopping to smell the roses" would benefit all of us if we put it into effect.
And I didn't mean for it to look like I was LOLing at poor, little Mikey's pain. My heart goes out to him. He'll be in my thoughts and prayers. It's always hard when our little ones suffer.
Trixie? Humorous? Hmmmm, I find that hard to believe. She's about as dry-witted as anyone I've seen. Sheesh, TECH, are you that hard up?
OK, I have to elaborate, but it'll take time
You see, I've known Trix a few years now. We've laughed and cried and cussed and ...
... well, we eventually found happiness together, yet apart.
But, alas, I find her dry wit rather amusing, and I look forward to hearing (or reading) what she has to say.
More importantly, I like how she mixes her poetic voice to so many topics.
And, with just one more post, she will reach the magical figure, which is why I'm taking such a fanatical approach.
That, and I like to see ER squirm when he loses by such a large margin.
Tee hee hee hee!
TECH, Fred Phelps has also run for political office in Kansas. In 1990, he ran for governor.
He's best known for having his large family picketing anything associated with homosexuality. The slogan most seen with his marches is "God Hates Fags."
He's a freakin' loon.
Teditor, you're a laugh-riot today, aren't you? LOL! You should be glad you aren't close enough for me to thump you, but good.
I have to laugh at E.R.'s post today about me beating him at a race he didn't even know about until last night. Hey, that's fine. I'll take my meaningless little victories where I can!
This has been fun. Thank you, my friends. Now, don't forget to come back and post on future topics. We've got to keep the rednecks humble!
LOLOLOLOL -- dang it! 53!!!
I find Trixie to be funny and fun. But seriously, Trixie, time to post something else. We can't just keep running up the comments like this.
Well, I guess we could.
I must tell you that I did a bit of planning for this comment race. By posting the lot I did on ER's, I knew I could completely delete them so that they would disappear if he started to pull ahead! Yes, I'm evil.
You know what would be really cool? If we pushed that baby up to 100. That would be funny.
Wow, yes, 100 would be cool! Do you suppose it could happen?
Frenzied still hasn't checked in, has she? I hope she is OK. I would love to find out how to make freezer jam. Maybe she could share that here.
100 is the goal! Let's all get behind Trixe and push! :)
I'm pushing! I'm pushing! :)
That is a lot of comments. I think we can do it.
Thanks Slim -- hopefully I'm not so hard to push that it will take a bulldozer or anything like that.
I think I've already gotten more comments with this thread than any other.
I should bake cookies and give some to anyone who posts here. You like chocolate chunk or oatmeal raisin??
Chocolate! And I will do my part to reach the double digits.
Feline hasn't posted here. I wonder why. It's time for her to join the 100 Comment Effort! :)
You don't suppose she could be ... busy? I am still trying to figure out how she had time to make JAM!
Posh! She shouldn't be too busy to lend her support to the 100 Comment Effort to Please Trixie! :)
I mean, I'm making time at work to do this. I'm naughty.
It's also very slow. I've been fighting sleep all afternoon.
Omm! Tech's being naughty! Hee hee!
Isn't it FUN?
Oh guess what I just heated up for dinner... that's right, some Many Can Soup. I was craving a chicken-fried steak, but I remembered I had some MCS in the freezer. It is even BETTER after it's had time to mingle!
Y'all are, like, wack! :-) :-)
Chocolate chunk, please. !!!
Doh! 71!
I'll trade you a slice of spice cake with cream cheese frosting for a chocolate chunk cookie! I don't know what it is about fall that makes me want to cook. Okay, it was from a box, but I still had to mix it up all by myself!
Speaking of cooking, I read about a girl who blogged about doing one recipe a day out of Julia Child's cookbook. And now she's going to get a book deal out of it!
Spice cake ... ummmmMMMMmmmm
Oh, this makes 75 comments!
MCS is better after the flavors mingle. I add new garlic, though, because it loses a bit of its punch.
Oh, I made the best scrambled eggs this morning. My son even asked for seconds! My secret, you ask? First, starve him a little so ANYTHING you give him tastes delicious.
Also, I usually mix my scrambled eggs with milk, but I was out of regular milk, so I used soy milk. That's right, soy milk. You have got to trust me on this one, it's really, really good. Why do I have soy milk in my house, you ask? Well, that's a tale for another comment.
So, how did soy milk get in this southern girl's house? Well, I've heard now from several reliable sources that soy will help keep your skin elastic as you lose weight. No, I haven't been losing weight lately, but I'm an eternal optimist, so I'm eating more soy and getting ready for it.
Yes, I know, I said I had spice cake in the house just a couple posts ago. But I have soy milk in the house and it can subtract calories just by sitting in the fridge. It's like a calorie magnet. At least that's my story!
Health experts say soy is very good for you. I keep intending to try it, but haven't. Well, I tried soy milk once as a beverage and gagged on it, but cooking with it might work okay.
LOL Crystal! I used to have optimism too. I've settled for loving my big round self. Of course I doubt you have the problem I do. I would love to find the magic calorie magnet. Maybe I will have to give the soy milk a try. But first, that spice cake...
Soy?
As in beans?
I bought tofu, too, but haven't had the nerve to try it yet. It looks disgusting, so it must really be good for you.
Yeah, Teditor. It's good for menopausal symptoms too. Give it a shot!
I know folks that are harvesting beans, and they've got such a great yield ...
... they're having a difficult time finding a place for 'em.
But that's a good problem, I guess.
Tofu is great when it's stir-fried with veggies.
I'm wondering, though, if we can get to 100 comments by say ...
Yes, you can make milk from beans, apparently. I guess technically, it's bean juice, not milk, but bean juice sounds disgusting.
... midnight? Wouldn't that be great?
Soybeans are a great short crop. They probably would get a good price for them.
But what would ER say?
Oh sure, we'll go past 100 by midnight, with four of us posting. How can we not, discussing chocolate chunk cookies, soybeans and spice cake? I think we have the makings of a weird cookbook right here.
Yeah, I think they're getting a good price for 'em. That and corn are the primary crops in northwest Missouri, I guess.
Of course, I'm used to wheat and stuff that we grow in western Kansas
If ER were here, he'd been cheering us on. I think. I'm sure he'd have an opinion on it, one way or the other. :)
Heck, folks, we might get 100 by 10 o'clock
Tofu ... I don't like how it sounds. It doesn't sound like food. It sounds like something you're afraid the doctor is going to have to cut out of you. "Doctor, we must cut the tofu out immediately."
Who will be No. 100
Oh, yes, Trixie, that's a great idea. A cookbook of recipes from the blogging world!
And I got the 100th comment.
Damn you, Tech! Nice work
E.R. is working on some history stuff about the Sallisaw area. I could tell you my story about that vicinity.... another time....
ER, Crystal and I are all from that area.
In fact, I was born in Sallisaw.
Joy is breaking 100!!
Tech: You were? I just assumed you were born in Ft. Smith.
YOOHOO! Hey, doesn't anyone know the maximum that ER has on a post?
Whoo hooooo!!!! Y'all did it!!! WOOT!
I knew that bunch from eastern Oklahoma could do it!
Yes, Teditor, Northwest Mo. is full of beans.
Nope. Sallisaw. I guess. There's a strange story about my birth certificate that no one is left to explain. I keep hoping it means I'm adopted, but so far, no go. :)
Well, now, that's a story worth telling....
This word verification thing is getting lazy. It's "aaaaw". I think it's making a comment about our numerous posts.
Sometimes I can't read the word vertification. I have to try a couple of times then.
Wack! Wack, I say!
--ER
Mmmm. Beans. ... grease can ...
--ER
Two of my siblings were born in Sallisaw, too.
LOL, Trixie. It may be getting tired!
Wack? What does "wack" mean?
Yeah, often the font they use is too difficult to read. And when the kerning is really tight, it's impossible to decipher some letters. (Ah, I knew that typography class would pay off some day.)
Welcome to the party, E.R.!
Here. I'll share the Sallisaw tale I told Trixie a minute ago. :-)
Flashback.
I was workin' at a truck stop at Highway 59 and I-40 in Sallisaw. Cutie-pie girl always came in after work late at the Holley carburator plant and bought two Coors. I was 18. She was 20 or 21 and H.O.T. Total redneck girl.
I asked her out. She said yes! Picked her up at her place in Sallisaw; had supper with her and her parents. Our "date" was to go get a 12-pack and head to a slate pit southeast ot Muldrow. (And at the time there seemed to be absolutely nothing odd about it).
Drink beer. Talk. Sitting on the tailgate. Watching the sun go down. Drink beer. Chat. Scootch closer. Drink beer. Chat. And she says, out of the blue:
"Yeah, I was foolin' around with this guy from Sallisaw -- and I think I'm pregnant."
Talk about a buzz buster. Was a true test of my redneck chivalry not to just haul her right back directly to her house! I mean, I did. But we finished the beer first, and we smooched and we parted. For. Good. I was terried she would try to pin the babychld on me. Sheesh!!!!!
--ER
Y'all have totally swamped my record. :-( I'm sad now. :-(
--ER
Soy beans are not the same kind of beans, ER. I don't know how to cook soy beans either, though.
(And I still don't have a grease can. I use Pam. The spray, not a person, although, I wouldn't mind having a cook named Pam..and a maid, and a butler and a chauffeur, and a ghost writer to finish my books...)
Not. :-) ... This is like a chat room!
--ER
Mmmm. Beans. Maybe when I finish eating all of the Many Can Soup I'll make a pot of beans. Cornbread sounds good too.
Hey, who would ever guess that blogger could be used as a chat room?
Jinx! Owe me a coke.
Holy crap. It's past my bedtime.
--ER
Pam ... why do I like that name so much? :)
Get to bed, E.R., you're going to have a long day tomorrow. I am sure of it.
Crustal, you mean you didn't keep the grease can I boughtyou?? I am hurt.
--ER
You know, you guys could get AOL IM and we could all get in a chat room and chat. Crystal, ER and I already have it.
Grease can... the gift that keeps on giving.
Night, all. :-)
--ER
Tech: I have no idea.
ER: Typical, always leaving the party early. :)
I've never done AIM. I have Yahoo IM though... would there be a conflict having both on my machine?
Oh wow, this is # 135. We blew that 100 out of the water.
Nope, Trixie. At one time, I ran three IM programs.
Yeah, I think 100 was too easy for us.
Cool. I'll look into installing AOL IM either tomorrow or this weekend. I think tomorrow may be a bit of a hectic day.
Maybe tomorrow we could reach 200? Well, we'll have to recruit Frenzied. Where IS that girl?? I wonder if she's making more tofu jam.
And where did Teditor go? Did we lose him in the bean patch?
Ladies, I'm going to call it a night, also. I have one photo to post, and then I'm going to bed!
Good night Tech! It's been great fun. Sleep well.
TEditor just doesn't have the stamina! (Just kidding)
It'd be cool if a bunch of us could get on AOL and chat in real time.
This makes a full gross. ;-)
--ER
Teditor was having some alone time with his honey. Bloggin' just ain't that important.
Do numerous comments from the same few commentators really count as separate comments? Just kidding.
I did the "joy" search even tho no one memed me, and all i got was several instances of "enjoy
and 2 references to women named Joy, Behar and Harmon.
And in my post of today I listed several quotes taken directly from Westboro Baptist Church's website but I got them from the website of the ADL.
Yes, Mark, it counts. Don't rain on other peoples parades! :)
